The Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides public access to government documents and records. Requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act, responses letters, and responsive documents are themselves public records.

The Clerk's Office responds to FOIA requests for all Barrington Township matters.
MAKING A REQUEST TO THE CLERK'S OFFICE:
A request to the Clerk's Office must include the requestor's name, complete contact information (name, address, email or phone number), and a description of the document(s) being sought. The request must clearly state that you are asking for information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. Requests filed under the act, response letters, and responsive documents are themselves public records.
Copy Fees and Electronic Records
The first 50 pages (Black and white, standard size) are free, while pages 51 and beyond can be charged, at maximum, at $ 0.15 (15 cents) per page.
For colored copies, oversized documents, or electronic media (flash drives and discs) the public bodies may charge the actual, reasonable cost of reproduction.
**A public body may charge $10 for each hour spent by personnel in searching for, retrieving and/or examining the records for necessary redactions. No fees will be charged for the first 8 hours**
Except to the extent that FOIA or another statue expressly provides, public bodies may not charge per-page fees for records, nor for any search/review of electronic records, when furnished in an electronic format, unless the request has a commercial purpose.
*Special rules may apply to fees for requests determined to be 'voluminous,' and for records maintained in an electronic format on a recording medium (such as a flash drive or DVD) the public body may charge the requester for the actual cost of purchasing that recording medium.

The purpose of the Township is to perform the duties and exercise the powers granted in the Illinois Township Code, 60ILCS1/1 et seq. and the Illinois Public Aid Code, 305 ILCS 5/12-21 et seq. for the benefit of the residents of Barrington Township.
The Purpose of the Township Assessor is to perform the duties and exercise the powers granted in the Illinois Property Tax Code, 35ILCS 200/1-1 et seq. for the benefit of Barrington Township.

In 2019, the IllinoisGeneral Assembly passed Public Act 101-0504. The law requires IMRF to post certain employer cost and participation information on its website. IMRF will update these reports annually.

Pursuant to the Illinois Open Meetings Act (Illinois Public Act 97-0609), the total compensation package of any employee who receives over $75,000 per year is available for inspection at Barrington Township, 602 S. Hough Street, Barrington, IL between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00AM - 12PM on Friday, excluding holiday's.
